Synergy awards power purchase agreement to WA's Emu Downs Solar Farm

Synergy has entered a 13 year power purchase agreement (PPA) with APA Group, the owner and operator of Emu Downs Solar Farm near Cervantes, 200 kilometres north of Perth.

Under the agreement, Synergy will purchase both the energy and the Large-scale Renewable Generation Certificates (“LGCs”) from the 20 MW Emu Downs Solar Farm until 31 December 2030.

The project will share the transmission connection and facilities with APA’s existing 80 MW Emu Downs Wind Farm, which was acquired in June 2011 along with long-term energy and LGC off-take contracts with Synergy.

With the required commercial agreements now in place, construction of the approximately $50 million project is expected to commence in January 2017.

Synergy chief executive officer Jason Waters said this agreement further demonstrated Synergy’s commitment and role in developing and growing renewable energy projects in the state.

“Synergy’s board has approved the award for the power purchase agreement to Emu Downs Solar Farm which was selected as the preferred bidder in August after bidding opened in June,” Mr Waters said.

“This agreement adds to securing more renewable energy for Western Australia and enables both APA and Synergy to execute their growth strategies in renewable power generation.”

Mr Waters said the target for completion and full supply is 1 January 2018.
