Why should I switch?

Why should I switch?

Just by taking part in the Synergy Solar Plan pilot, you could reduce the size of your bill by shifting some of your usage to Off-peak periods. Plus, you'll also get access to more detailed consumption data via My Account - to see when you're using your energy and understand what changes you need to make.

Participating in the trial will help make it easier for you to understand and manage your usage. If you're still not ready to switch, then check out our frequently asked questions below, to get the answers you need to take the next step.

What's the difference between the Synergy Solar Plan and my current plan?

If you stay...

You'll continue on your current plan which is a government regulated tariff on our Standard Electricity Agreement.

Once we have 500 applicants on the Synergy Solar Plan trial, you won't be able to join at a later date. You can switch between our standard residential electricity plans at any time.

Your current plan is known as a standard contract:

  • The terms of our Standard Electricity Agreement are governed by regulations and must be approved by the Economic Regulation Authority and are non-negotiable
  • Rates are set by the government and are non-negotiable, these typically change on 1 July each year

If you switch...

The Synergy Solar Plan offers gives you the flexibility to maximise your solar investment. Even when your panels aren't generating, you can save just be shifting more of your usage to Off-peak times.

Plus, you also have the opportunity to get an extra 1% off your electricity charges just by combining this plan with My Account, Paperless and Direct Debit.

This plan is known as a non standard contract:

  • This simply means it has different terms and conditions, supply fees, rebates and charges compared to our other home electricity plans
  • You can switch back to your existing plan at any time

Will I still be eligible for the Renewable Energy Buyback Scheme (REBS)?

Not through the duration of the trial. However, you'll be switched over the Solar Energy Buyback Scheme instead - which pays you the same great rate (7.1350 cents per kWh) for any excess energy you export to the grid.

You'll get access to more detailed usage data in My Account

Another benefit of the trial is the more detailed usage data you'll get in My Account after your first bill - so you can see what day and time you use energy the most. This makes it easier to see where you could shift more of your usage to Off-peak times to maximise the value of this plan.
