Bassendean Primary School wins Synergy funding to weather proof multipurpose area
The Bassendean Primary School welcomes much-needed funding to refurbish its whole of school multipurpose area through Synergy’s community competition.
The competition which was run by WA’s largest energy provider Synergy, as part of its showcase of energy solutions and product options at the recent Western Australian State Schools Registrars Association Convention, gave one lucky school the opportunity to win $2,500 towards a school project.
Bassendean Primary School Principal Jacqueline Varris said the school had wanted to enclose its multipurpose area, where it holds its assembly and important gatherings for a while, but was short on funding.
“We were really pleased to win the Synergy funding and have put it towards the installation of roller shutters, as that will allow the whole of school to meet in a sheltered area, out of the wind, rain and heat,” Ms Varris said.
“At the moment, if it’s an exceptionally cold and rainy day, our students get wet and have to sit through windy conditions so we’re really excited to be able to have some shutters to keep the area dry and cosy; we will also use the area for afterschool activities and sport.”
Synergy Business Sales Consultant Sarah Owen said Synergy was pleased it could contribute to weather-proofing one of the school’s most important meeting areas and assist the school in being as energy efficient as possible.
“Synergy values the opportunity to be an active participant in WA communities. As one of WA’s most essential organisations, we have a leading role to ensure a positive, lasting impact in areas we live and work and we’re proud we can help local schools,” Ms Owen said.
Bassendean Primary School’s multipurpose area refurbishment capital campaign commenced two years ago and with the assistance of the school community and broader support, the project can become a reality for all students and the teaching body.
