Synergy awards contract for Kwinana Battery Stage Two to GenusPlus Group
Synergy has awarded GenusPlus Group with a contract for Kwinana Battery Stage Two.
The contract is for the provision of the civil and electrical balance of plant works, including installing and commissioning almost 300 battery container units and 72 inverters.
Kwinana Battery Stage Two will be the biggest grid-connected battery in WA, delivering 200 megawatts of power with 800 megawatt hours of energy storage.
The project is expected to create 160 jobs during the peak of construction and the estimated completion date is late 2024.
Synergy Chief Executive Officer, David Fyfe, said GenusPlus Group was a key subcontractor in successfully delivering WA’s first utility-scale battery in WA.
“Kwinana Battery Stage One was completed earlier this year,” Mr Fyfe said.
“Already it is providing stability to the South West Interconnected System (SWIS) by absorbing excess solar power during the day and releasing it in the evening.
“The Synergy team welcomes the opportunity to again partner with GenusPlus Group to deliver another important project in WA’s decarbonisation journey.”
The Cook Government allocated $625 million for Kwinana Battery Stage Two as part of its Energy Transformation Strategy.
