Australia’s longest connected EV charging network now open
- WA EV Network is operational with more than 100 fast and ultra-fast charging points across 49 locations
- One of the world’s longest connected electric vehicle charging networks
- Key part of the State Government’s $43.5 million investment into WA EV infrastructure
- Stretches 7,000km and provides critical charging infrastructure to support EV uptake
The Cook Government has successfully delivered the WA EV Network, one of the world’s longest connected EV charging networks.
The Network is now open for business and stretches 7,000km from Mundrabilla in the south, to Kununurra in the north.
It features more than 100 fast and ultra-fast charging points in 49 locations. Back-up chargers are also available.
With charging sites approximately 200km apart, the WA EV Network reduces range anxiety for EV drivers travelling around the state.
The Network is providing the backbone of EV charging infrastructure and supports the State Government’s goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
The WA EV Network was delivered by the State’s energy utilities, Horizon Power and Synergy, on behalf of the State Government.
It extends to the South Australia and Northern Territory borders. In doing so, it allows some of the State’s most remote locations including in the Kimberley and on the Nullarbor to be explored via electric vehicle.
Utilising novel-technology, the network includes Standalone Power Systems, which are powered mainly by renewables. These systems have been used at some of the more isolated sites which do not have an existing power supply and are on the periphery of the tele-communications network.
